Indoor Air Quality

What is meant by Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)?

Indoor air quality (IAQ) refers to the air quality within and around buildings and structures, especially relating to comfort, and more importantly, health of building occupants. IAQ can be affected by a variety of factors, including poor ventilation, high levels of pollutants from indoor and outdoor sources, and the presence of moisture, mould, and bacteria.

Health effects of poor IAQ

Poor indoor air quality can lead to a variety of health problems, such as allergies, headaches, and respiratory infections. Factors that can contribute to poor IAQ include poor ventilation, high levels of pollutants from indoor and outdoor sources, and the presence of moisture, mould, and bacteria. Some examples of indoor air pollutants that can impact IAQ include:

  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
  • Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
  • Particulate Matter (PM)
  • Carbon Monoxide (CO)
  • Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2)
  • Formaldehyde
