The Health and Safety Association of New Zealand (HASANZ) registration is the hallmark of quality workplace safety consultants in New Zealand. Safe & Sound Solutions employs quality consultants specializing in a wide range of workplace safety, environmental, quality compliance and occupational hygiene areas. Our consultants are HASANZ registered and members of their respective professional organizations such as the New Zealand Institute of Safety Management (NZISM) and the New Zealand Occupational Hygiene Society (NZOHS).
I started my interest in occupational health in the early 1980’s when I trained and worked for the Department of Health and was involved in both public and occupational disease investigation and workplace monitoring of substances, noise and dust.
This passion continued with several compliance manager roles (QA, Enviro and H & S) with large organisations and in 2002 I established Safe and Sound Solutions.
I enjoy helping organisations to define, measure and improve their processes and performance across health and safety, QA and the environmental fields.
I am passionate about the industry and I am an active member of the NZISM and registered on the HASANZ.
I started my career as a research scientist involved in cancer research before moving into health and safety. I joined the Safe and Sound team in early 2020 as an Occupational Hygienist brining a passion for the health side of health and safety.
I lead Safe and Sound’s Occupational Hygiene division providing Dust, Fume, Noise, and Vapor monitoring and control services to NZ businesses. I have a wealth of knowledge from multiple high risk industries including the petrochemical and superconductor sectors and enjoy helping organisations develop a proactive and positive safety culture while implementing usable real-world safety and exposure control plans. I am passionate about the industry and an active member of the New Zealand Occupational Hygiene Society (NZOHS) and the New Zealand Institute of Safety Management (NZISM).
My working life initially involved implementing quality management systems for companies in the UK and NZ before I moved to a role in Health and Safety. Since then I have worked as a Health and Safety Advisor in the public and private sector, ranging from civil construction projects in the rural sector to New Zealand Post and New Zealand Police. I have a Diploma in Workplace Health & Safety, I am graded at Professional level by the New Zealand Institute of Safety Management and I am listed on the HASANZ Register of health and safety professionals. I enjoy working with a range of clients on their health and safety journey and finding solutions that are pragmatic, not dogmatic. I believe that keeping people safe and healthy is just part of doing great business.
In my spare time I mostly enjoy dreaming up adventures and getting outdoors with our loopy dog.
Growing up in Mt Maunganui, New Zealand I have always loved everything outdoors which only ignited further once moving to Canterbury in 2015. I have always loved working with and helping others, so decided to turn my career path towards health and safety. Gaining a Bachelor of Health Science, a Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, and a member of NZISM I have gained plenty of knowledge about the industry. Previously, I worked for the Bay of Plenty District Health Board as a Health and Safety Advisor for both Tauranga and Whakatane hospitals which I thoroughly loved.
I am very passionate about the industry and enjoy helping organisations to create, develop and implement proactive changes, becoming embedded into their safety culture ensuring everyone gets home safely to their families each day.
In my spare time I love to get outdoors to surf, snowboard and explore the mountains with my friends and family.
Graduated from Massey University with a Bachelor’s in Health Science (Environmental Health). My previous work experience is mostly in human health ranging from clinical to public health. I was a NZ Army Medic for over 3 years, followed by working in Local Government. I worked for 2 years in Local Government, working in regulatory roles with an environmental and public health focus. I then changed to working in public health for over 4 years specialising in communicable disease and epidemiology. The health of people whether it is an individual, group or population; acute or chronic illness is my passion, which is what I intend to bring to the scientific discipline of occupational hygiene.
I have many interests. I love my music, I’m definitely sports mad and will often be glued to the TV watching rugby, cricket, football, triathlon, athletics and any other sport that peaks my interest. I’m a runner and that’s what I like to do in my down time and hit the gym. Star Wars and a good TV series to binge watch is also great, as is detoxing from technology by reading a good book.
