Safe and Sound Solutions was pleased to be again asked by Chris Cox, the race director to assist the Christchurch Marathon with the development of their Health & Safety Plan. This included a Risk Management Plan that met the requirements of Risk Management in Recreation and Sport SNZ 8669:2004, approved by the Christchurch City Council. Our involvement also included Jerry Stock attending the event on the day to assist with safety matters and on the ground advice.
This year the event involved over 4000 participants over all events (Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10Km, Wheelchair Race, Kids Marafun) and 220 volunteer marshals and 10 zone supervisors from the Rescue & Technical Support group.
The event also established a “Major Event Operations Committee” (Race Management, Council, St John, Police, Fire Service) to coordinate event emergency communications.
