Rangiora Carpets Limited faces a fine, reparations and costs totalling almost $180,000 when a worker fell 2.5 metres from a mezzanine, thorough a false ceiling and onto the floor. The worker was pushing a box of files in a storage area on a mezzanine floor when she overbalanced and had nothing to hold onto and fell. She suffered multiple broken bones. Worksafe NZ charged the company with failing to ensure the health and safety of staff.
A horse trainer who allowed children to play on a water truck as it moved around a Fernside track has been ordered to pay almost $25,000 in fines and reparation after a child, aged 10 fell under the wheels of the truck and was seriously injured. The judge commented “You knew the boys were getting on and off the truck and in close proximity to it. Your attitude must be condemned as grossly irresponsible. You took risks with the lives of the boys”
