I started my interest in occupational health in the early 1980’s when I trained and worked for the Department of Health and was involved in both public and occupational disease investigation and workplace monitoring of substances, noise and dust.
This passion continued with several compliance manager roles (QA, Enviro and H & S) with large organisations and in 2002 I established Safe and Sound Solutions.
I enjoy helping organisations to define, measure and improve their processes and performance across health and safety, QA and the environmental fields.
I am passionate about the industry and I am an active member of the NZISM and registered on the HASANZ.
My working background was 25 years with the Royal New Zealand Air Force as Aircrew and Operations; followed by seven years in Operations with a civil airline.
It was during this time that health and safety became a calling.
I have been with Safe & Sound since 2012 and have worked with a huge variety of clients and their industries. The work can be challenging but is always rewarding. I enjoy being able to make a difference.
I am presently studying with Massey University working my way through the Graduate Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health to enhance my knowledge base and to ensure I meet the tertiary qualification expectation for H&S Consultants
With 12 years of operations management experience in the agricultural/manufacturing sector, Health & Safety and Environmental management was a daily key focus and still is as a compliance consultant. I am passionate about personal development, have a tertiary qualification in H&S management and have had my qualifications and experience assessed at Graduate level by the New Zealand Institute of Safety Management.
As keen cyclist who has represented New Zealand in the past on the track I still like to get out and tear around out on the road or punch out a few hot laps on the velodrome and have coached athletes at both Olympic, World Championship and Commonwealth Games level in the past.
What blows my hair back?….taking business owners and staff on a journey where they arrive at the point and understand that H&S is not just a box ticking exercise but an effective tool to help grown their business.
My style, combining my working and sporting careers has given me the ability bring a structured and goal setting ethic to the way I approach life and I enjoy the satisfaction of working with others to assist them achieve their goals.
I bring over 30 years of accounts and property management experience to my role of Administration Support. I enjoy working with a team of qualified consultants who focus on delivering a quality product and great customer service.
My working life initially involved implementing quality management systems for companies in the UK and NZ before I moved to a role in Health and Safety over ten years ago. Since then I have worked as a Health and Safety Advisor in the public and private sector, ranging from civil construction projects in the rural sector to New Zealand Post and New Zealand Police. I have a Diploma in Workplace Health & Safety, I am graded at Graduate level by the New Zealand Institute of Safety Management and I am listed on the HASANZ Register of professionals. I enjoy working with clients on their health and safety journey and finding solutions that are practical and user friendly. I believe that keeping people safe and healthy is just part of doing great business.
In my spare time I mostly enjoy dreaming up adventures and getting outdoors with the family dog.
Basil is an integral member of the team – having many years experience in sports ball health and safety along with being our chief vacuum cleaner.
